We’ll begin with the fundamentals of fountain pen nibs, discussing the differences between tuning and grinding, and how each can enhance your writing experience. From there, we’ll take an up-close look at a variety of popular custom nib grinds, examining their unique shapes, characteristics, and the writing styles they create.

You’ll also learn about some of the nib specialists behind these custom grinds and discover the distinctive offerings that have made each of them well-known within the fountain pen community.

Best of all, you’ll have the opportunity to experience six different custom nib grinds firsthand, allowing you to compare writing feel, line variation, and performance for yourself.

Please bring your preferred paper for testing the nibs.

A 10x–20x loupe is recommended for those who would like a closer look at the nib geometry and grinding work.

About the Instructor:

Gailyn is an avid fountain pen and ink enthusiast, content creator, and small business owner whose passion lies in exploring both the technical and creative sides of the hobby. She is particularly fascinated by the complex properties of modern fountain pen inks and enjoys ink swatching, dip pens, calligraphy, vintage and modern flex nibs, custom-ground nibs, and celluloid fountain pens.

As the founder of Fountain PENdulum, Gailyn designs and handcrafts solid wood desk accessories created specifically for fountain pen and ink enthusiasts. Through her work, she combines craftsmanship, functionality, and a deep appreciation for the writing experience.
